OK, so I’m pretty sure that Joe Lieberman gets his legislative ideas from watching John Carpenter movies. No, really, how is this new proposal not exactly the same as the ending to Escape From LA? You know, where Snake Plissken turns off civilization, lights a cigarette, and looks into the camera, saying, “Welcome to the human race”?
Ironically, John Carpenter and Kurt Russell, both staunch libertarians, would probably disapprove. I guess that while Lieberman et al. were suffering from serious Snake envy, they didn’t notice that Snake is an anti-hero standing up against the big, bad government. Or maybe they did get the point, and they think that by giving the government such immense control over communication, they’ll foment rebellion and form a whole army of wannabe Snake Plisskens.
As much as I love John Carpenter, I’m gonna have to oppose any legislative action that can be found in his movies. This one doesn’t even get debate; it’s really that dumb. Let’s just hope that Lieberman doesn’t watch Halloween anytime soon.

Much like the movie itself from what I can remember. Though I might just be mad that it didn’t have Isaac Hayes as the king of NY and LA.
Well yeah, it was dumb, but it was still AWESOME. And coming from Detroit, I’m all for creating kingships in deteriorating cities…too bad Isaac Hayes isn’t around!
