At least three classic rock stations and two golden oldies stations on the radio — you know you’re in Ohio. Nothing like howling along with some Skynyrd, racing through the flatness. I originally thought I’d stop in Cleveland, but the downtown parking situation bummed me out too much for this trip. So now I’m slightly to the southwest of there.
(Imagine the following paragraph read by Michael Westin, a la “Burn Notice.”)
College towns are easy to navigate if you know your way around; there’s always the same assortment of bars, coffee shops, and students. University inns aren’t the cheapest option, but there’s free parking and they’re usually centrally located on walkable city squares. The tradeoff for out-of-date decor is old-fashioned construction, sturdily-built walls and floors that will soundproof anything untoward. The clientele, made up mostly of visiting professors and parents, won’t give you any trouble — good places to get your work done without attracting too much attention.
The students aren’t here yet, so this town is eighties-stalker-flick sleepy. Unfortunately, I find I’ve left my camera cable back at home. Fortunately, it turns out my Flip cam takes better night shots anyway. What you’re seeing here are Flip screen caps, and that’s what you’ll continue seeing unless my Android phone’s camera shapes up. What good is a modern travelogue without some pictures?
Last night’s evening stroll was pleasant. Think I’ll repeat it now, maybe see what the local coffee shop has to offer for breakfast before I get back on the road. More Midwestern shenanigans to follow soon.
