Here’s something funny: I was just reading Monster’s list of 11 ways to damage your career and number one was ‘not taking your education seriously.’
Oops.
Then again, the list also included using social media during your work hours — um, did they not read about Mayor Cory Booker’s heroic use of Twitter during the Snowpocalypse? A little behind the times, methinks.
Also, there’s been a lot of talk about this Economist article on ‘disposable academics’ and I feel vaguely obliged to take umbrage. But in reality, there was only one thing that popped into my mind when I read that title, and it was Beyoncé:
Disposable? You must not know ’bout me…
Anyway, today’s real topic, changes are a’comin’. If all goes well I’ll be moving this blog to its own platform this weekend, so as not to have ads (they’re not making me any money, honey!) and so as to have a little more control over the format — I’ve got my eye on some tabbed menus. I’d been planning on tweaking the appearance anyway, so consider this fair warning.
As it happens, I’ve been corresponding with a business person this week via email (yes, I’m desperately trying to sell out but don’t worry I’m really bad at it). At one point, they wrote, ‘Your current method of determining content = ???’
I was kind of amused by this, and obviously it’s whatever I feel like talking about. But apparently, marketing people think you should care more what other people think.
I’ve already gotten a few quite a few notes from the feedback form, which is very flattering, and it’s also been really cool to know my hijinx have lightened the load for those still in the trenches. So, in all seriousness, if you have any inquiries, suggestions, stories you want to share, etc. you should send ‘em on in. To be clear, I will continue to say whatever the hell I want, it’s just that if you’d like me to rant about a particular topic, or if you have specific questions I’m happy to listen. [Grits teeth] Cuz I care lot what you, the customer, think.

Well, I’m excited to see what your new place looks like!
And, I wouldn’t say your content = ???. There is definitely cohesion within the eclectic palette going on here. But, as far as I’m concerned, “whatever the hell you want” is enough of a marketing pitch for me. Good luck with the switch~
Thanks, I appreciate that especially from another writerly type! And thanks, I’m excited too.
I think you do a splendid job of selecting content. Of course you’ll do a much better job selling out.
Kidding, kidding. I wish you gobs of success going forward as I plan on riding your fluttering coattails as the descent from the ivory tower continues. Cheers!
Cheers to you too, Clay, and i look forward to another year of crazy education-related shenanigans on the internet!
Dear people with money,
I will click whatever she picks.
On twitter and fb, I will repost best, the work of this hostess.
Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Good Luck!
If you manage to sell out and make money, don’t forget us little folk who like to read your rants (regardless of topic.)
Oh, I will. In facts, that’s the only reason it’s worth selling out…
