Bad Blogger (Austin Blogathon, 2011)

October 1, 2011

Note: I gather the idea of a blogathon is to write a bunch of blog entries.

9:15 am Arrive at Blogathon.

9:30 am Realize where I am (Link Co-working) after coffee kicks in.

9:45 am Apply more caffeine. Hey, this office chair is 10 times more ergonomic than the one I have at home! And it’s green! For me to bounce in!

10-11:00 am Attend (i.e. walk 10 feet to) Talmadge Boyd talk on video blogging. Best advice: “Who should video blog? Anyone who’s not afraid of their face.”

11-11:15 am Meet another former college educator. Agree that students are beasts, teaching them to read just doesn’t pay enough.

11:30 am Realize I’m supposed to be writing.

12:00 pm My laptop’s desktop is now spotless.

12:30 pm My Gmail is totally under control.

1:00 pm I am literally the first one to the lunch buffet.

1:05 pm Chat with neighbor to right.

1:10 pm Chat with neighbor to left.

1:15 pm Realize the live stream camera is pointed in our direction. Our table is wolfing on camera, what fun!

1:30 pm Chat with neighbor behind me.

2:00 pm Oh no, we have to turn off the network to let more people on it! Darn, just as I was getting focused.

2:15 pm It’s getting really noisy. Still nearly 4 hours till happy hour.

2:30 pm Guess I should write something…oh, another talk! On WordPress stuff, gotta listen to that.

3:00 pm Coffee break.

3:30 pm Snack break.

4:00 pm Chatting with tablemates.

4:20 pm Actual writing! Yay!

4:30 pm Last presentation, on separating personal/business life.  Clearly, that’s not going to happen but maybe I’ll learn something anyway…

4:50 pm People are throwing down on the Twitter stream! It’s gettin’ ugly!

5:30 pm Must…write…before…beer.

6:00 pm Happy hour. We’re done here.

Your neighbor on the right, well I think I recognized him from a picture at the Post Office. Just saying… :)

  2. Leigh Ann says:

This seems pretty accurate. We didn’t chat, but I was sitting across from you. You looked very busy and important, but I had no idea he magnitude of work you got done until now.

Oh, you should have thrown something at me! I’m told I often look busy and unapproachable, but usually I’m just spacing out :-)

  3. So what was the throwdown on Twitter all about? I’m curious. Also, did you get to see (and hear) Kristen Lamb?

    • wopro says:

The Twitter throwdown started with some good-natured smack Tweets about @austindirtydog, but she smacked right back. Also, you should ask Bob (above) what happened to his Twitter handle…and I don’t think Kristen Lamb was there, I think she’s more Dallas-centered.
